Workshop Descriptions
Child Abuse Identification & Reporting: Staff will have an understanding of  how to identify all areas of child abuse and know the protocol to report child abuse.  This workshop will also cover how to prevent shaken baby syndrome. Covers OCFS topics  6 & 8.

Partners with Parents:
This workshop supports staff in interacting  with families to make them feel welcomed and comfortable.  Staff will learn how to work with families to support the development of the children in their program.  Covers OCFS  topic 4.

Health & Wellness [Promoting Safety, Health & Nutrition in Children & Youth]: Creating an environment where families, children and staff feel safe and secure. This workshop will focus on creating an environment that protects and enhances the health and nutrition of our children. Covers OCFS topics 2, 4 & 7.

OCFS Regulations [Understanding and Implementing the New York State SACC Regulations]: All staff will understand the OCFS requirements and their role in maintaining the school age child care permit. Covers OCFS  topics 5 & 7.

assroom Management: This workshop will prepare staff to create an environment where children are engaged and cooperative. Covers
OCFS topics 1 & 3.

Coaching & Guiding Children Behaviors:
This workshop will focus on teaching staff techniques to manage children in their classroom without using usual punishments such as threats, issuing orders, and time out.  Covers
OCFS topics 1 & 3.

Curriculum Development (Project-Based Planning): This workshop will teach staff how to do long term project-based learning with their children. 
Covers OCFS topics 1, 3 & 5.

 Meeting the Developmental Needs of Children and Youth: This workshop will focus on the four developmental needs of children; social, physical, emotional and physical development.
Covers OCFS topics 1 & 3.

Teaching Children Responsibilities:
This workshop will focus on teaching children how to make informed and responsible choices in their everyday lives. Staff will learn how to remind children to think about how their actions may affect others.
Covers OCFS  topics 1 & 3.

Team Building Strategies: This workshop will focus on getting staff to work together effectively and activities that staff can do with children and youth to reinforce teamwork.
Covers OCFS topics 1 & 3.

"NEW" Creative Inspiration for Young People: As educators, we must first understand how to tap into our creative mind to inspire our young people to use their creative mind.  This workshop will focus on understanding the process to spark creativity in ourselves and then design an environment where children can find their creative niche; writing, dancing, singing, drawing, photography, acting and many others.  Participants will walk away with a clear understanding of how to develop a curriculum to meet the developmental needs of their children by using a creative process.  Covers OCFS topics 1 & 3.

 

"NEW" Support Students’ Academic Outcome through Project Based Learning: Where do we even begin!  First, participants will understand what are the “Department of Education Academic Standards”.   From this base line, participants will learn how to develop strong objectives to keep the focus on building skills to support the child’s academic outcome.  Through the project base learning process, participants will design a step-by-step curriculum that will have children experience learning in a fun, engaging and intentional process.  The key is not to repeat the school day, but to spark the desire of learning for bringing the outside world into the classroom.  Covers topics 1& 3

 

"NEW" Building your Classroom Facilitation Skills: Many times we keep doing things the same way and find that children are getting restless or impatient.  Well, this workshop will build your resources on how to keep children focused and engaged.  Participants will learn how to design a classroom environment that doesn’t feel like school is still in session.  Participants will learn how to adjust their approach according to each individual child’s needs as well as to the energy of a large group.  Come build your bag of tricks to keep your sanity and have kids engaged. Covers Topic 1 & 3
