THIS FORM MUST BE SUBMITTED EVERY SEMESTER & ANY TIME YOUR CLASS SCHEDULE CHANGES.
 
STUDENTS ARE STRONGLY URGED TO SUBMIT CERTIFICATION REQUESTS AT LEAST 8 WEEKS PRIOR TO THE START OF AN ACADEMIC TERM, TO ENSURE TIMELY BENEFIT PROCESSING.
 
REQUESTS ARE PROCESSED IN THE ORDER OF RECEIPT.

UNCERTIFIABLE CLASSES:
  • WAITLISTED COURSE: Waitlisted courses cannot be certified. You must submit a new Certification Request once a class is no longer waitlisted.
  • PREVIOUSLY PASSED COURSES: The VA will not pay for courses a student has previously passed, whether you were using education benefits at the time or not.
  • OPTIONAL COURSES: Classes that are not required to fulfill your degree will not be certified. Degree audits will be performed on every student to ensure all classes are within their degree plan.
 
COURSE DESCRIPTIONS:
  • Courses with different begin and end dates may cause prorated or no BAH for periods when courses do not overlap.
  • HYBRID: certified as an online course unless the class meets the same number of hours each week as the number of credit hours the class is worth.
  • INDEPENDENT STUDY & INTERNSHIP: certified as an online course.
 
FULL-TIME REQUIREMENTS:
  • Undergraduates: 12 credit hours
  • Graduates: 5 credit hours

CERTIFICATION TERMS AND CONDITIONS:
 
All information on this form is protected by FERPA rules and regulations.
  • Requests for enrollment certification must be submitted each semester by completing a Certification Request and submitting it to Veteran & Military Student Services (VMSS) at the University of Colorado Denver|Anschutz.
  • If for any reason the VA claims you are ineligible for VA Educational Benefits (Post 9/11 Students), after classes have started you will be required to pay for your full tuition and fees by the school's deadline.
  • Any reduction or increase in semester credit hours made to your schedule after your Certification Request has been submitted must be reported immediately to the VMSS and may result in the VA creating a debt against you that you would be required to reconcile. Changes of address and telephone number should be reported promptly to the University, VMSS, and the Veteran's Administration Regional Office.
  • Satisfactory academic progress must be maintained in accordance with school policy as well Veterans' Administration Regional Office policies. The VA will not pay benefits for the period after a student has ceased attending class.
  • Student must be in a degree seeking program in order to receive benefits, only courses that satisfy an approved degree requirement outlined by the curriculum guide or a degree auditing report (DARS) can be certified. The Veterans' Administration Regional Office will pay educational benefits for up to fifty credits as an undeclared major.
  • The University of Colorado Denver Student e-mail account is the official means of communication by CU Denver|Anschutz and VMSS. It is the student's responsibility to check their account on a regular basis. If a student misses important information due to lack of checking campus e-mail, the VMSS and the University of Colorado Denver will not be held responsible.
  • Agreeing to these terms authorizes the VMSS at the University of Colorado Denver|Anschutz to access CU Denver student's academic account as well as their records with the United States Department of Veterans Affairs in order to gain information that is relevant and applicable to the benefit certification process. Student records are protected by the federal Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act.

SPONSOR PAYMENT TERMS AND CONDITIONS:
  • I am authorizing the CU Denver’s Bursar’s Office to apply a third party sponsorship to my account, which will allow my financial aid to be refunded prior to the Department of Veteran Affairs paying my tuition and fees.
  • I understand my account will reflect a $0.00 (zero) balance, but I will still have an account balance due until the VA pays their portion of my tuition and fees.
  • I understand that my refund will not be dispersed before the semesters actual release date.
  • I acknowledge that any remaining balance after the VA has paid is my responsibility to reconcile. Any balance not paid may prevent registration for the subsequent semester. Any past due balance could be sent to an outside collection agency.
  • I understand that my Sponsor Payment will not be posted without a current Certificate of Eligibility (COE) or eBenefits Summary.
