CU Denver Certification Request

Degree audits will be performed on every student to ensure all classes are within degree plan. Classes that are not required will not be certified.
  • DO NOT count waitlisted classes. Once enrolled in a waitlist class, resubmit Certification Request.
  • You must be enrolled in more than half time to receive any BAH. For Fall/Spring terms, full-time for Grads is 5 credits, you must be enrolled in 3 credits to receive any BAH. For Undergrads, 12 credits is full-time, you must be enrolled in 7 credits to receive any BAH.
  • If ALL of your classes are online, your benefits could be prorated. HYBRID classes may be classified as online.
  • Entire form must be completed to ensure accurate benefit certification.


If you were transferred chapter 33 benefits, use your own file number. You must
use your sponsor's file number if you are on chapter 35.

All information on this form is protected by FERPA rules and regulations.
  • Requests for enrollment certification must be submitted each semester by completing a Certification Request and submitting it to the Office of Veteran Student Services (OVSS) at the University of Colorado Denver.
  • If for any reason the VA claims you are ineligible for VA Educational Benefits (Post 9/11 Students), after classes have started you will be required to pay for your full tuition and fees by the school's deadline.
  • Any reduction or increase in semester credit hours made to your schedule after your Certification Request has been submitted must be reported immediately to the OVSS and may result in the VA creating a debt against you that you would be required to reconcile. Changes of address and telephone number should be reported promptly to the University, OVSS, and the Veteran's Administration Regional Office.
  • Satisfactory academic progress must be maintained in accordance with school policy as well Veterans' Administration Regional Office policies. The VA will not pay benefits for the period after a student has ceased attending class. OVSS is required to check students last day of attendance for all classes in which a student receives an “F” grade. It is possible that a student received the “F” grade as a result of non-attendance, and we are required to report last date of attendance to the VA which may cause a debt to the student.
  • Student must be in a degree seeking program in order to receive benefits, only courses that satisfy an approved degree requirement outlined by the curriculum guide or a degree auditing report (DARS) can be certified. The Veterans' Administration Regional Office will pay educational benefits for up to fifty credits as an undeclared major.
  • The University of Colorado Denver Student e-mail account is the official means of communication by the OVSS. It is the student's responsibility to check their account on a regular basis. If a student misses important information due to lack of checking campus e-mail, the OVSS and the University of Colorado Denver will not be held responsible.
  • Agreeing to these terms authorizes the OVSS at the University of Colorado Denver to access CU Denver student's academic account as well as their records with the United States Department of Veterans Affairs in order to gain information that is relevant and applicable to the benefit certification process. Student records are protected by the federal Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act.

  • I am authorizing the CU Denver’s Bursar’s Office to apply a third party sponsorship to my account, which will allow my financial aid to be refunded prior to the Department of Veteran Affairs paying my tuition and fees.
  • I understand my account will reflect a $0.00 (zero) balance, but I will still have an account balance due until the VA pays their portion of my tuition and fees.
  • I understand that my refund will not be dispersed before the semesters actual release date.
  • I acknowledge that any remaining balance after the VA has paid is my responsibility to reconcile. Any balance not paid may prevent registration for the subsequent semester. Any past due balance could be sent to an outside collection agency.
  • I understand that my Sponsor Payment/Early Refund Release will not be processed without a current eBenefits Summary.
