Kent State University’s  School of Art,  
announces a call for art, open to all Kent campus undergrads. 

2024 Student Annual Art Exhibition 

A selection of artwork chosen by the guest juror will be on display at the School of Art’s

CVA Gallery (Center for the Visual Arts, 325 Terrace Drive) from 

March 12 – March 20, 2024

About this year’s Juror: 

Sam Adams is the Ellen Johnson '33 Assistant Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art at the Allen Memorial Art Museum at Oberlin College. Adams's exhibitions address issues in global modern and contemporary art, with a focus on gender and sexuality. Adams has worked at deCordova Sculpture Park and Museum, the Institute of Contemporary Art Boston, the Rhode Island School of Design, the Getty Research Institute, and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. They hold a BA from New York University; an MA and PhD from the University of Southern California in Los Angeles; and a postdoc from the Central Institute of Art History in Munich. Their doctoral dissertation focused on theater and performance in Cold War Germany.

Submission 

The College of the Arts encourages entries from all artists, working in any media, regardless of their major or experience.  

All Kent Campus undergraduate students are eligible to enter! 

Submission deadline: February 25, 2024

Juror review of submissions: by March 1, 2022 

Reception and Awards Ceremony: March 15, 2024, 5–7 pm 

The reception and exhibition are free and open to students and the public. 

Prizes 

Awards and cash prizes will be given for Best in Show ($1,000); First Runner Up ($500); and Second Runner Up ($250).

Eligibility: 

1.Original works in any medium 

  1. Submissions are limited to three pieces per person (yes, you can submit just one if you want).
  2. Hanging work must be fitted with a professional hanging device (no tape, poorly attached wire/string/fishing wire, etc.). All artworks should be clearly labeled with the artist's name, title, medium, dimensions, and sales price$$ or insurance value if not for sale. Pieces missing any of the above may forfeit the right to be displayed.
  3. No substitutions of accepted work.
  4. All work will remain on display for the duration of the exhibit. Artwork on display in the Student Annual must be picked up after the exhibition closes. Details will be communicated via email by the Gallery Director.
  5. To enter the juried competition, you must submit a PDF or JPEG image of your artwork via an online entry form. The competition is only open to works submitted online, and subsequently chosen, by the judges, to be displayed in the CVA Gallery in the Center for the Visual Arts.
  6. If your work is chosen for exhibition, the committee reserves the right to use an image of your work for promotional purposes.
  7. You must have a Kent State University Banner ID to submit work and be currently enrolled in an undergraduate program at the Kent Campus at the time of the exhibit.

*** If you are submitting an animation, video piece or a video of a dance, etc. Please provide link to site where video is hosted- Vimeo, Youtube, etc- in the entry description box, along with any pertinent description information. Also provide a JPEG or PDF of a "video still" in image entry box.
